- Ask for a chaperone or bring a support person.
- Ask for a smaller speculum and for each step to be explained.
- Breathe slowly and relax your thigh and pelvic muscles.
- You can ask to pause or stop at any time.
- Avoid intercourse, douching and vaginal medications for about 2 days before a Pap test.
