A school, DMV or workplace vision exam is usually a screening. It checks how well you read an eye chart, but it can’t diagnose eye disease. A comprehensive eye exam also checks eye pressure, your retina and your optic nerve. Commercial drivers must meet specific DOT physical exam vision standards, and Florida permit applicants take a vision test with the Class E knowledge exam.
