A fundoscopic (ophthalmoscopic) exam looks at the back of the eye: the retina, optic disc and blood vessels. It’s done with an ophthalmoscope, usually after dilation. It can reveal diabetic retinopathy, glaucoma damage, high blood pressure changes and papilledema. Students also learn it in the cranial nerve exam (CN II).
