About this USA FE Exam practice test

The FE exam (Fundamentals of Engineering) from NCEES is usually the first step toward becoming a licensed Professional Engineer (PE). Most people take it near or right after graduating from an engineering program. Passing earns the Engineer Intern (EI) or Engineer in Training (EIT) designation.

Our question bank is written from the official sources behind our USA FE Exam guide. Every question comes with an explanation, so each test teaches you something even when you get it wrong.

  1. Set up your test: pick the number of questions (up to all 40), a mode and, if you want, a single topic: Mathematics, Fluids & thermodynamics, Engineering economics, Exam basics, Mechanics of materials, Statics, Dynamics, Electricity, Ethics, Probability & statistics.
  2. Answer the questions: questions are drawn at random and answer choices are shuffled every time.
  3. Get your results: see your score, a topic-by-topic breakdown and an explanation for every answer, then retry the ones you missed.

USA FE Exam practice test FAQs

Is the USA FE Exam practice test free?

Yes. The USA FE Exam practice test is completely free, with no sign-up. You can take as many tests as you like.

Will I see the same questions every time?

No. Each test pulls random questions from the full bank and serves questions you haven’t seen yet first, mixed across topics. Answer options are shuffled every time too.

How many questions can I take at once?

Choose 10, 25 or 50 questions (as the bank allows), or the entire question bank. You can also focus on a single topic to work on weak areas.

What is the difference between exam mode and practice mode?

Exam mode works like the real test: you answer everything and see your score and explanations at the end. Practice mode shows the correct answer and explanation right after each question.

Can I retry the questions I got wrong?

Yes. Your results page has a “Retry missed” button that builds a new test from only the questions you missed.
